Titanfall 2 is set five years after the Battle of Demeter, in a science fiction universe where the Frontier Militia and the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation (IMC) wage war for control of “The Frontier,” a region of star systems far from Earth. Players control Jack Cooper, a rifleman in the Militia receiving off-the-books training to become a Titan Pilot from Captain Tai Lastimosa. During an assault on the IMC-held planet Typhon, the Apex Predators—a mercenary group led by Kuben Blisk working for IMC General Marder—mortally wound Lastimosa and destroy his Vanguard-class Titan BT-7274. Lastimosa transfers control of BT to Cooper before dying, making the rookie rifleman an unlikely pilot who inherits Special Operation 217: rendezvous with Major Anderson and complete their mission. Cooper and BT fight through IMC facilities, defeating Apex Predators Kane, Ash, and Richter, and discover Anderson dead from a time-travel accident while investigating the “Fold Weapon”—an IMC superweapon using time-displacement technology to destroy planets. The weapon’s first target is Harmony, the Militia’s home planet and Lastimosa’s birthplace. Cooper and BT race to seize the Ark—the weapon’s power source—defeating Apex Predator Viper and boarding the IMC transport Draconis, but are captured by Blisk and his lieutenant Slone, who destroys BT’s chassis. BT transfers his AI core to Cooper in a SERE kit, allowing Cooper to reinstall him in a new chassis and assault the Fold Weapon facility. After killing Slone and earning Blisk’s respect, Cooper and BT infiltrate the weapon’s superstructure where BT sacrifices himself by destroying the Ark, taking the Fold Weapon and the entire planet Typhon with him while hurling Cooper to safety.
