Stray is a third-person adventure game developed by BlueTwelve Studio where you play as a stray cat exploring a decaying cyberpunk metropolis. The story begins when a group of four cats trek through abandoned ruins, and one falls into a chasm leading to a sealed underground city known as the Dead City, separated from its companions. The cat discovers a lab and helps download an artificial intelligence into a small drone body called B-12, who has corrupted memories but promises to help the cat return to the surface. As they venture deeper, they discover the city is completely devoid of human life but populated by Companions—robots who were once servants but have gained self-awareness and built their own society in humanity’s absence. The ruins are infested with Zurks, mutant bacteria originally designed to consume waste but evolved to devour both organic life and robots. The cat and B-12 meet Momo and other members of the Outsiders, a group dedicated to escaping to the surface, and work together to steal an atomic battery to power a subway train that leads to the city’s control center. In the final act, B-12 fully recovers its memories and reveals it was originally a human scientist who attempted to upload their consciousness into a robot to survive after humanity was wiped out by an unnamed plague, but the process went wrong until the cat arrived. B-12 sacrifices itself by hacking into the city’s network to override the lockdown and open the city to the outside world for the first time in centuries, allowing the cat to escape into sunlight while the Companions finally see hope of freedom.
