Persona 5 Royal

Persona 5 Royal is an enhanced version of the critically acclaimed JRPG that follows a high school student known by the codename Joker, who is falsely accused of assault after defending a woman from a drunk attacker and is subsequently expelled from his school and sent to Tokyo on year-long probation. While attending Shujin Academy and living above Leblanc Café with his guardian Sojiro Sakura, he discovers a mysterious app that transports him into the Metaverse—a supernatural cognitive world where people’s distorted desires manifest as physical “Palaces”. After awakening his Persona powers and meeting companions Ryuji Sakamoto, Ann Takamaki, and the cat-like Morgana, he forms the Phantom Thieves of Hearts to infiltrate these Palaces, steal the “Treasures” that represent corrupted hearts, and force evil adults to confess their crimes and reform. The group expands to include Yusuke Kitagawa, Makoto Niijima, Futaba Sakura, and Haru Okumura as they take on increasingly powerful targets including an abusive teacher, corrupt businessmen, and eventually politician Masayoshi Shido. Their journey leads them to confront Yaldabaoth, a false god born from society’s desire for a thoughtless existence, who they ultimately defeat by awakening humanity’s will to live freely. Persona 5 Royal adds a new third semester featuring gymnast Kasumi Yoshizawa (actually her twin sister Sumire living under an altered cognition) and school counselor Takuto Maruki, who gains godlike powers to rewrite reality into a world without suffering—forcing the Phantom Thieves to choose between a painless false paradise or the harsh but genuine truth.
